Los Algodones, Baja California, Mexico
Los Algodones, Baja California, Mexico is just across the border from Yuma Arizona and may be the dentist capital of the world. It has become a popular destination for medical tourism. The town is situated in the north east corner of the municipality of Mexicali and is the northern most town in Mexico. It is just to the west of Yuma Arizona and is close to Winterhaven California. Bus trips originating in the Coachella valley are popular with senior citizens during the winter months. Many retirees from the US and Canada frequent Los Algodones for discounted dental care, eyeglasses and prescription medicines. It is possible to save up to 70% on dental work when compared to prices in the US. Likewise prescription drugs can be found in the Mexican pharmacies at savings of up to 70 - 80% off the costs found on name brand drugs in the US. I know of one case where a popularly prescribed heart medication had a price of $400 for a 30 day supply in the US. The same drug was available in Mexico for $62. Other things that draw folks to Los Algodones are the friendly people, and the open air markets.
Studebaker Museum
Studebaker started out as a 19th century wagon manufacturer. At the beginning of the 20th century they began to manufacture automobiles and continued until 1966. Based in South Bend Indiana, the company is know for innovative designs and their cars still have quite a following. The are American Classics. The Studebaker Museum in located in South Bend and has move into a new home since these pictures were taken. I hope to be able to visit the Museum in the future. South Bend is also home to Notre Dame University.
Northern California Coastal Region
Mendocino County California is known for its ruggedly beautiful coast line and forest of Redwood trees. Home to the Skunk Train that runs between Ft. Bragg and Willits California it is a favorite “off the beaten path” tourist destination in Northern California. The area features a dozen beaches where one can enjoy the crashing waves of the Pacific. Lake County is inland from Mendocino and is home to Clear Lake, California's largest naturally formed lake. The lake is in the shadow of the volcano, Mt. Konocti. The underground area has been tapped for a geo-thermal energy source.
New Orleans
The French Quarter in New Orleans La. Is the oldest neighborhood in the city. The district is a National Historical Landmark containing many individual historical building. It is located on the highest ground in the area and has withstood many weather challenges during the course of it's history.
Know for it's opulent hotels and many 5 star restaurants, the French Quarter is a favorite destination for relaxations and parties. Bourbon Street is legendary as is the annual Mardis Gras celebration. Each Friday afternoon Radio Margaritaville broadcasts Happy Hour from Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville cafe at 1104 Decatur St. The French Quarter is in close proximity to the New Orleans cruise ship terminal and should be considered a bonus port of call for any cruise originating from the city. You will want to take an extra day and enjoy New Orleans.
