1911 Studebaker Electric Coupe
The Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company entered the automobile market with an electric car in 1902. The Studebaker Electric Coupe had a top speed of 21 mph made possible by a Westinghouse electric motor. It’s range was about 70 miles between charges. The batteries weighed in at just under half a ton (970 lbs.). The original selling price was $1850. From 1902 until 1912, Studebaker produced electric cars and a complementary line of electric commercial vehicles. This antique auto is predates modern zero emissions, alternative energy vehicles by 100 years.
1911 was also the year that the company acquired the Everitt-Metzker-Flanders Company of Detroit to form The Studebaker Corporation.
