Gulfport Mississippi is located on the Gulf of Mexico and has nearly 7 miles of pristine white sand beaches. It is a popular tourist destination. It is adjacent to the city of Biloxi. Events hosted in Gulfport include the “World’s Largest Fishing Rodeo,” “Cruisin’ the Coast”, a week long event celebrating classic cars, and the “Smokin’ the Sound” speedboat races.
The southern end of US Highway 49 is located in Gulfport at the intersection of US Highway 90. The gulf is visible from that intersection. US Highway 49′s northern terminus is in Piggot, Arkansas. Bluesman Robert Johnson is said to have sold his soul to the devil at the intersection of US 49 and US 61 in the Mississippi delta.
