Bloggers Threaten Western Civ, possibly World
Thursday March 8, 2007
Due to be released in June is a book by Andrew Keen, a "columnist" at ZDNets that is critical of the Web 2.0 experience. (note that I have moved to the first revision of 2.0.1 although I can't readily define 2.0.1, but it looks really cool on my title header). It seems that Mr. Keen has written a critique of the blogging and the social media experience. I have not had the opportunity to read the book and will withhold judgement until I do. Since this is the blogoshpere we can draw on the published opinion of one who has been privy to the yet to be released work. Dave Winer has a post entitled Blame the Bloggers that details his opinion of the book.
Some of us have been blogging a while, for myself I have been at it since about 2000. My first exposure to blogging via a mention by Leo Laporte on the old Screen savers show. Like many I started a blog at Blogger, back in the Pyra days, before Google. My original publication is probably cached somewhere on a Blogspot server. This publication has been on the web continuously since 2004. I have made money with my blog. I have not made a lot of money, but the fact that it has generated some revenue will certainly disqualify me from amateur competition. As far as I know, I have not single handily caused the demise of any established media outlets. But what the hey, there is still hope.
Help a blogger out and reserve your advance copy of this literary work.
