BurningMan and CoolingMan
Monday September 4, 2006
Watching the coverage of the BurningMan festival on CurrentTV I was struck by the amount of materials trucked in from around the world for the pagen art and spirituality festival. It seems I am not alone in my concerns and one group has started CoolingMan in an attempt to offset the emissions created by Burning Man. The About page at Cooling Man lists this mission statement, "CoolingMan's mission is to build bridges between the climate science and art communities, and inspire direct climate action by groups and individuals". This seems to be a good idea given the current level of awareness that we are trying to achieve concerning climate change.
I have never attended BurningMan, but for a number of years I have checked out the web site and looked at the pictures. The coverage at Google's Current TV has given me a greater look than in years past. I wonder if the release of the latest Nicholas Cage movie Wicker Man was timed to coincide with the annual BurningMan festival? Crafty those Hollywood Movie moguls if that is indeed the case.
