The credit card companies play an important part in the online shopping experience. In brick and mortar retail you can always pay cash, although not always convenient for big ticket items, it is still possible. On-line credit cards are the way to go. Part of the on-line shopping experience is the instant gratification obtained when you click the buy button, complete the transaction with shipping and payment information and then lean back and take pause in the fact that your merchandise is now in the pipeline and will soon arrive at home or the office. Be it shipped overnight or by a means somewhat slower, the waiting period contains a heightened level of anticipation while the expectant delivery is in transit. We get an email, we check tracking numbers and carefully plot the movements of our treasures as they transverse the continent or globe until that time that we actually unwrap and inspect the goods.
Behind the scene the credit card companies have made a few cents on the transaction. They facilitate the financial transaction. The proverbial middle man in that they act as go between for you and your money. Companies like MasterCard, American Express, and Discover Financial Services present additional opportunities for investors to take advantage of the growth in e-commerce.
