Enterprise Alabama Tornado
Thursday March 1, 2007
Yesterday afternoon, March 1, 2007, a tornado ripped through Enterprise Alabama. The High School was damaged. Students were trapped, several were killed in the wreckage of the tornado. The story was breaking across the news wires as local TV stations quickly posted stories to the web. Most were light on details, but little was really known at the time the story was breaking.
With CNN, MSNBC, and Yahoo all having links on the front page the only service to lag was Google News. No coverage unless one specifically searched the news site for Enterprise Alabama. The question I wonder about this morning is why did the Google algorithm lag so far behind in picking up the story?
I have a colleague with family in Enterprise. We were alerted to the tragedy by a phone call. For the rest of the afternoon I checked Google News, and found no mention of the story without doing a specific search
